Continuing in our thoughts on covenant... We mentioned that - TopicsExpress

Continuing in our thoughts on covenant... We mentioned that exchanging garments was a means of executing a covenant. David exchanged clothes with Jonathon (see earlier post). In entering into a covenant, they exchanged destinies: David became king and Jonathon died a warrior. How did Jesus exchange clothes with us (his believers) to execute the New Covenant? Concerning the disrobing of Jesus the Bible says: Who, being in nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped but made himself nothing, taking the nature of a servant being made in human likeness; And being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself and became obedient to death - (Philippians 2:6-8) Jesus literally disrobed himself of his divine nature and took on the garment of human flesh. He clothed himself in flesh and blood. The Word became flesh and lived for a while among us We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only son who came from the Father - full of grace and truth (John 1:14) As part of the New Covenant exchange, between Jesus and his believers, Jesus took on our destiny: he suffered, he died, and he was buried. He died in our place. What an exchange! Instead of our due destiny - we receive his place: children of God, co-heirs with Christ, seated with him in the heavenly realms. What will our new clothes look like? We have this clue from the account of the transfiguration: After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the Sun and his clothes became white as the light (Matthew 17:1-2) Here is (for me) the exciting part; soon after this occurred Moses and Elijah appeared, talking with Jesus. Peter proposed to build some shelters for each of them. While (Peter) was speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said This is my son - whom I love; with him I am well pleased listen to him! My brothers and sisters - what we have hear is a picture of heaven! A taste of eternity that we will spend in our new clothes. Not only will we be able to converse with the great saints of history (Moses and Elijah) - we shall hear the voice of God as clearly as the prophets did or as Jesus did! Not as we do now - looking through a glass darkly - but we shall see and hear as clear as a bell! No more Bible exegesis, no more searching in the stars, no more laborious study of spiritual numbers, no more hours on our knees in prayer - we will see and know and understand God in our spirit, fully, and immediately! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! mark h lane
