Continuing my review of the Golden Decade of Music 1965-1974, where I am selecting the artists alphabetically and playing selections of their songs I liked or found influential from that Golden Decade. I am currently in the C’s now playing a few from is Creedence Clearwater Revival, aka CCR. The band consisted of John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook, Doug Clifford. The band has sold 26 million albums in the United States alone, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Rolling Stone ranked the band 82nd on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. The next song selected is Run Through the Jungle, another song written by John Fogerty, this one recorded by CCR’s for their Cosmo’s Factory album. The songs title and lyrics, as well as the year it was released (1970), have led many to assume that the song is about the Vietnam War. However, according to the songs composer, thats not really the case. Fogerty, in a 1993 interview with the Los Angeles Times, said, “I think a lot of people thought that because of the times, but I was talking about America and the proliferation of guns, registered and otherwise. Im a hunter and Im not antigun, but I just thought that people were so gun-happy -- and there were so many guns uncontrolled that it really was dangerous, and its even worse now. Its interesting that it has taken 20-odd years to get a movement on that position”. https://youtube/watch?v=bf_xZVhaAKs
