Continuing on from our Monday post ... LOSS OF MOBILITY Cause: the loss of the curve of our spine is often down to decreased mobility in the hips and pelvic area. As a result, the body becomes stiff and rigid. Dr Tom Crisp a sports physician, says “ Elastic tissue in ligaments disappears as we age. That combined with injuries to joints over the years, compounds stiffness and limits our ability to keep good posture”. What you can do: You can reduce and even revert mobility loss through regular physical activity. Make a rule that you won’t sit in the same position longer than 20 minutes, move about more often and walk whenever you can. Exercise lubricates the joints and is the best preventative medicine we have for postural problems. When sitting in soft chair or a sofa, consciously tip your pelvis forward and sit up as high as you can. This will help to retain the nice S –shaped curve of the spine. Placing a foam roll in the curve of your spin can also help when sitting for longer periods. Lets continue looking after ourselves in the right way!
