Continuing on our Hawaiian vacation, several clients brought in a series of Hawaiian legends prints. The prints show contemporary Hawaiians echoed by their native ancestors. Each one of the prints includes an explanation about the event or ceremony featured. My understanding is the contemporary Hawaiians pictured in each scene have a historical link to the story of the picture and were asked to be models to link the present day to the past. Not only did the clients bring in the same themed prints, they also picked the same framing – a simple stepped black frame for a contemporary feel. One thing I never tire of as a picture framer is the world that opens to me through the things people bring in to frame. I travel the world, I learn about history, cultures and customs, geology and geography, plants and animals, techniques, triumphs and heartaches – you name it. My education never stops, thanks to the wonderful things that come into my shop every single day.
