Continuing our adoption journey - Once Mat and Aunt Betty had - TopicsExpress

Continuing our adoption journey - Once Mat and Aunt Betty had Cainan, they had to spend 5 days in the Province. This is to get paperwork done, and just generally get to know your new child. Mat tells me that this was his favorite part of the trip because they werent surrounded by trinkets and tourist pits, but got to really see where Cainan was from. Hunan is known for its embroidery, so they were able to stop at several places to see these works of art, and pick up some things to bring home. They were getting weary, of course, because now it is no longer a vacation, but taking care of a 14 month old they have never met. But Mat handled it well, and thank goodness for Aunt Betty - she was a huge help. After those 5 days, the last stop was Guangzhou, where all internationally adopted children must go to get the final okay to leave the country. Mat and Aunt Betty joined the other families from Great Wall Adoption Agency there, and they did the medical exams, and the final yes you can take him with you paperwork. To this day, we are still in contact with the folks he traveled with. They were a huge help to us when we first came home, and now they are part of our extended family. The one family - would you believe- lived only a few blocks from us in Florida where we were at the time? Incredible. Once everything was complete, Cainan was issued a US passport, and we were told that as soon as he touched down on American soil - he would be a citizen. After 14 months in an orphanage, and after 15 long days with a new family - Mat was able to bring him home and our family of 5 would be complete.
