Continuing our adoption journey - where did I leave off?? I think - TopicsExpress

Continuing our adoption journey - where did I leave off?? I think we had just decided to move forward and adopt our little boy. We called the adoption agency back the next day and told them we were a go. And this is when things really started to move fast. Because our dossier had been in China for nearly 2 years at this point, we wouldnt have long to wait. Within two days we had approval from China that we could adopt the baby. Within a week we had our approval to travel. We would be traveling at the beginning of August to get our boy - less than 8 weeks away. And we had.....nothing. No crib, no clothes, no toys......we hadnt know if we would be getting him or if we did get a child how old, boy/girl.....so we had just waited. Luckily we had some incredible neighbors who were changing over their kids rooms. They gave us a crib, a twin bed, and a night stand. So furniture was set. He would only be 14 months old when he came home, so we knew we would need the crib, but it wouldnt be for long. We were glad to have the bed as well. Then Mat and I went shopping and bought him clothes. Over the course of the 8 weeks we waited to travel to China, we received more information and pictures. We were lucky (as was Cainan) that he was in a program called Half the Sky. It was run by Americans, and it was a wonderful program He got more hands on care and we had pages of updates on him learning to roll over, and learning to stand, etc. And more pictures, which was great! So we had a general idea of how much he weighed by 1 year of age. Which wasnt much. He was about 13 pounds. While we got his stuff ready, Mat and his aunt Betty were getting their documents ready to travel. I cannot tell you how much paperwork this was. We had to get about 1 million pieces of paper notarized. Shots were needed to travel. Money was needed for the orphanage. ON and on. Our adoption agency lead us every step of the way, and we never felt overwhelmed, or in the dark. Because I had two small children at home, I didnt travel to China to pick up Cainan. Mats aunt Betty was gracious enough to travel with him. He was going to be gone for 15 days, so I was glad he was going to have company. They were going to leave the 8th of August, and return around the 22nd. So on August 8th, almost 2 years to the day we decided that China is where our baby would come from, Mat and Aunt Betty boarded a plane for Bejiing China.
