Continuing the Tater family tree: Medi-Tater “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psalm 1.1-3 This Psalm tells us how to be blessed by God. First, we are not to follow the counsel of the ungodly. Sometimes our friends or co-workers may try to influence us to go in the wrong direction. We should not ask the ungodly for advice. Next, the psalmist tells us not to stand in the way of sinners. People are watching you. Does your life lead them in the right direction to Christ? We also see that we are not to sit in the seat of the scornful. How many times do we criticize, or gripe and complain about the way things are done, even in our churches? After these three things that we are told not to do, we are given the positive. “But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” If we are saved, and following the Lord, it should be a delight to read God’s Word and meditate, or think about what it is saying to us. Last of all in our verses we see the promise. “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” What a promise! In my own personal life, I have found that hiding a portion of God’s Word in my heart and thinking of it throughout the day allows me opportunity to gain a better understanding of God’s Word and of His heart. Let me challenge you to hide God’s Word in your heart and meditate on it throughout your day.
