Continuing with Sulfurs made with Hends Quill Body. I got to - TopicsExpress

Continuing with Sulfurs made with Hends Quill Body. I got to thinking about imitating mayfly duns on the surface, with the idea of less is more by way of different designs. I really think one needs but a couple: a hackled pattern for faster waters and a flush-floating dun for smoother flows. Thus, Ive settled on these pictured for dorotheas. As for the hackle, the little #18 shown uses dyed yellow metz, mainly for my aging eyes. More often I use a cream hackle. The other fly pictured(twice) is a snowshoe dun with splayed or split hackle fiber tails, Quill body abdomen, Fred Reeses polysilk thorax around a natural or light dun wing of snowshoe foot hair. The light pattern is good, the Hends adds a touch of realism to the body and the snowshoe floats well and dries easily. A similar pair for most mayflies you encounter will cover the bases well during hatches. Of course, its always nice to have one really special pattern for fussy trout....
