Contrary to earlier studies attributing the difference to the distracting effects of computers, the new research suggests that writing by hand allows the student to process a lecture’s contents and reframe it — a process of reflection and manipulation that can lead to better understanding and memory encoding. Always liked handwriting class. I was taught in the second and third grade by a school principal who was also left handed. She gave me special penmanship classes to teach me to write without twisting my wrist around uncomfortably. It was one of my early school memories. Really enjoyed the special attention.
