Contrary to what you may hear about David Clements view on Common - TopicsExpress

Contrary to what you may hear about David Clements view on Common Core; he has unequivocally stated on his web site his stance on the Common Core Issue. Education As the Federal Government has increased the size and budget of the Department of Education, deficiencies in test scores and student performance have become more prevalent. The quality of the education of our children has not been improved by the policies of a structurally unaccountable, inefficient and unelected bureaucracy. The influence of special interest groups on education policy and the tendency of politicians to increase spending for education without attending to the underlying problems have not helped either. Critical decisions should be made locally. This would allow parents, teachers and community leaders, instead of out-of-touch Washington bureaucrats, to determine the most efficient use of resources. While there is a need for state-funded public education, I firmly believe that education starts with the family. Accordingly, I will support any measure that relieves the tax burden on all hard-working parents so they can allocate more of their own resources to alternatives such as home-school and private schools. I oppose Common Core. The people of New Mexico were bypassed and played no role in the development of the national standards. Out of fear of losing federal funds, New Mexico legislators and elected officials accepted the Common Core standards in 2009 before they were even finalized or published. Even more alarming, Common Core allows for the collection and dissemination of your child’s personal information, to include not just test scores, but social security numbers, attendance records, records of interaction with school counselors, identification of learning disabilities and even disciplinary records. This is a clear violation of fundamental privacy rights.
