Controversial topic time! Why do so many wrestlers have a hard time talking? If you love wrestling, have always watched wrestling, and have gone out in pursuit of becoming a wrestler, havent you always known that talking was a major part of the game? Yes, some wrestling shows have way too much talking. Im not here to argue that there should be more talk than wrestling, not at all. However; that being said, talking is still a major part of the sport/show. If you chased your wrestling dream, did you never consider that? Did you not care? Do you think youll get past that? Did you plan to acquire a manager? Im not trying to be a jerk about it, Im honestly just curious. Since doing this journalism things here are the major things Ive discovered that need worked on. 1) Believe in your gimmick- What ever or whom ever you are, BELIEVE IT. (I am not picking on two friends when I use these examples, but they are two major gimmicks I want to use as examples). If you are a cop, believe you are a cop, act like a cop, talk like a cop. You believe you are better than everyone else, you believe you represent the LAW, you believe others need put in their place, etc. If you are a geek/nerd, EMBRACE being a geek/nerd! Snort when you laugh, watch family matters, and see what Urkel does. Invent a goofy dance, say something really, really dorky (Like did I do that? But dont use that one exactly). EMBRACE who you are, and make me believe that is who you are! 2) You are not Randy Orton. The quiet, monotone, half psycho that can stand there and grimace while talking in a hushed voice. No, dont do that. Use EMOTION. If youre just a cocky bastard that think hes the best, then sell that hard. Standing in front of a camera and just talking in a normal, flat voice doesnt show me anything except that you cant talk. 3) Believe in yourself. When I cut my promos I really believe Im an intelligent wrestling journalist, observer, that has something of WORTH to say. I speak about things I legitimately dont like, and call for things to be the way I want them to be. In person you ALL know I am respectful and friendly, but when I decide I am going to shoot myself, the hell with you all (lol). I will say what I want, and how I want to say it. Ill say it with confidence, and pride. You need to do that too. 4) Believe that everyone wants to see you and hear what you have to say. This is HUGE. You overcome nervousness with confidence. When the camera is on you, you BELIEVE, right then and there, that everyone that will see this is on the edge of their seat, desperate to hear what you have to say. If you believe that, often you will talk as if its true. Ill stop there for now, but if there is ONE thing I think I do well, its talking. I love shooting interviews and promos, and if I can help in ANY way I really want to do that.
