Controversy Brews over MN Cafes 35-Cent ‘Minimum Wage Fee’ A Minnesota cafe is stirring up controversy by adding a 35-cent “minimum wage fee.” Minnesota implemented a minimum wage hike from $7.25 to $8 on Aug. 1, so Oasis Cafe owner Craig Beemer calculated what it would cost per ticket to accommodate the increase. Beemer has tried not to change how he’s staffing his restaurant, and rather than rolling the hike into menu prices, he added a 35-cent fee and explained on the check what it’s for. Beemer told Tucker Carlson on “Fox and Friends” that there are so many misconceptions about the minimum wage laws. He said people don’t understand how these laws impact business. Now if he raises the minimum wage to $15 as Obama wants, he would have to add a “minimum wage fee” of $3.88 on to every customer’s bill. This is because he’s trying not to cut back on employees and workers hours. So think about paying more if McDonalds and other restaurants have to raise their minimum wage to $15. You the customer will have to pick up the tab. So the price on a $1 might be $4.88. How about not raising the minimum wage, removing the tax the government puts on waitresses and paying more than the 15% tip. Besides this is an entry level job, with a fast turn over and it gives kids a chance to enter the work force.
