Controversy begets more notoriety than fellowship. A famous author once paid for a billboard promoting his very first book and then vandalized his own billboard, pretending to be a woman with whom he had slept and not called back the next day. An advertisement in the paper picked up the story of the vandalized billboard and people blogged, tweeted, and posted about it on social media. EVENTUALLY it landed on the doorstep of the New York Times. That book was I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell. First rule of going on a witch-hunt is to make sure that the suspect doesnt socially and financially benefit from there being a witch-hunt in the first place.
