Conventional wisdom is that everyday people dont care about politics & dont turn out to vote, but yesterdays 17th Assembly District Election showed that democracy is absolutely alive and well in San Francisco. Almost 700 dedicated San Francisco Democrats waited for hours in long lines on a beautiful Saturday morning to vote for delegates to the California Democratic Party. Many of us were moved to see so many San Franciscans engage in our local democratic process. I want to congratulate our wonderful slate of 14 Democratic activists who were all elected yesterday, representing the full diversity of San Franciscos ethnic communities, LGBT community, labor unions, environmental, transit, neighborhood, parent & women advocates; I also want to thank all 33 candidates who ran to ensure that our citys shared progressive values are represented in our state party. I look forward to working closely with all of you in the coming years.
