Conversation #9 with my children. Whenever Keertana and Krishna - TopicsExpress

Conversation #9 with my children. Whenever Keertana and Krishna spend long time on watching cartoons on iPad/TV, they get cranky after watching. It has been a puzzle for me. Finally I got a hint on what is to be done…. (During dinner time, while feeding Keertana) Me: My love, you know how we receive energy and we spend it, right? We receive energy during… Keertana: Sleep Me: Yes, deep sleep and also during meditation. How is the energy used up? Keertana: Through activities like walking, running… Me: Yes, also talking, seeing etc. All activities are done by using senses. Everytime we use senses, energy goes out of the senses little by little. What are the senses we have? Keertana: Sight, taste, smell, hearing and touch (she learnt in science recently) Me: Yes. I will tell you a secret. When we have lots of energy we are happy, fresh and jumping with joy. When we are low in energy, we become sad. Do you know which of the senses takes most of the energy? Keertana: Eyes Me: You guessed it right. Eyes take almost 90% of energy because they are bossy! Keertana: No papa! Eyes are very helpful, they are not bossy! Me: Ok. Suppose you are seriously helping mom in cooking and you happened to see Krishna watching Tom and Jerry on iPad. What will you do? Will you keep helping mom or go and watch Tom and Jerry? Keertana: Will go and watch Tom and jerry Me: That’s the power of eyes. They are very helpful, but they decide what you do and that’s why they are bossy. Me: Shall I tell you another secret? Keertana: Yes Me: There are two ways to use energy. One makes you sad, other makes you happy. For example, if you keep watching iPad or TV for long time, you will enjoy as long as you are watching, but a lot of energy goes out through your eyes. So you will become sad after you finish watching. If you use your energy to create something, your energy will become Knowledge (transform into experiential wisdom) and stay inside you. That will make you happy. Keertana: Yes, I know it is Technology (lo she got the right word at right time from her science text book) Me: Yes, anything you create is technology. For example, you paint Tom and Jerry or something, create sand castles in the park, learn music and create your own songs or create smiles… (Keertana is mocking smiles:-) Me (laughing): I am talking about making others smile. How to make others happy? Keertana: By talking to them (the other day I was telling her how happy her Grandma becomes when Keertana calls her up) Me: Yes, every smile we create makes us happy too. The point is whenever we do something, we should understand whether it takes away our energy or keeps our energy inside. To understand this difference is called discrimination (Viveka). Keertana: But papa, I don’t watch TV (too) much! Me: Yes I know my love. And also you should never stop doing anything because I told you. You should check it out yourself if you are becoming happy or sad after you finish doing something and then decide. You know my work all day in office is… Keertana (animating): Staring at computers Me: Yes, and I lose a lot of energy through my eyes and come back home in the evening…. Keertana (animating): tired Me: Yes (Though I reminded children about discrimination, I see it is my responsibility to create situations that are more exciting than watching cartoons. That will help children develop more and more discrimination and become creative. Creativity is godliness. My only mission these days is how to remain energitic all the time)
