Conversation started today 7:03pm Oroba Tasnim Could you please post this as an open letter to the judiciary? Dearest Supreme Court, I am utterly speechless and cannot find words to describe my feelings, lest I be charged under your precious contempt. Respectfully so, I wish to make some points here. First of all, thank you for being the utterly amazing institution you’ve been, with your bazooka shot sue-mottos to the not so proficient handling of your judicial cases. Thank you for showing this sixteen year old that justice is only limited to the movement where your rights are preserved but when it comes to voicing mine, you have that contempt notice swinging to and fro. Issue me a contempt notice too for I will supposedly “ridicule” and “malign” you. Not because I despise you but because I outwardly respect and love you. And when you love someone you don’t let them fall in the ditch, you scold them, sometimes beat them up and push them back. Yes, I will push you back because not so long ago, I was there standing beside you, while you came in that air conditioned car, I stood on the scorching hot pavement, eagerly awaiting the right moment to welcome you. Issue me a notice because you no longer care if I exist or not. You’d rather issue a sue-motto if one polishes their nails red instead of black or if the ball lands outside the golf course. You’d rather hang me for eating jalebis at midnight but won’t give a care in the world to those killing dozens of men in one go. While there’s an array of people dying daily as a result of terrorist attacks, you’re more interested in your son’s case where he spends extravagantly and you meekly claim you were unaware. So please can I tell you, I was unaware of that contempt notice of yours, too? While there are countless men today defying and openly “ridiculing” the Almighty up there, never have I witnessed him issue a contempt notice, why then you, a mortal being bring yourself above law? Am I not equal to you in status? Am I not made of the same “nutfah” as you? Or have you been sent down as an angel? I am confused. When you were restored with full dignity by us, we were promised our voices would reach the top levels, but I swear to God, our voices haven’t even reached the pits. The only voices you hear are of the influential, those already in the limelight. If that was the cause you struggled for, why seek our assistance in the first place. Thank you for finally showing me what freedom of speech entails. When one individual specifically talks about the need to mend the biggest conundrum imminent in the country, you’re busy flinging cases to and fro. When one party is found guilty in corruption, they’re sent off to jail but when their opponents put up the same show, they’re flowered with eloquent words of praise. Why the hypocrisy? My dear Judiciary! Why malign yourselves? Your task is to provide justice, not to play a political role in the country. Where the army is not permitted to intervene, so are you. I can be completely illiterate and illogical but why do you not stay in your assigned compartment. If I cannot issue a judgment in the courts, why can you come out and casually play politics. We respect you and follow you, but never blindly. It was you who portrayed dreams of a free judiciary which would bring a state as beloved as a mother where each dweller would be the same before law. Why then do you issue judgments you’re unable to withhold or implement? While there are a number of things we applaud you for, we cannot in any way condone off the injustice you’re committing by siding with one special party. Why do this, Uncles? WHY? Am I not important to you? You led me to believe I was equally important, more than your own children, why then are you betraying us. Even after you picked your nose after that long drive from Islamabad to Peshawar, I tried to overlook that and admired you but you have plainly shattered my illusions. You weren’t the miraculous savior we assumed you to be. In time, your bias has led you to disaster. Stop this, my dear judges in the judiciary. Stop this because I can’t bear you to fall in the same ditch we dug together for the traitors of this country. Stop politicizing yourself. Start taking charge of the things you’re responsible for instead of the tasks you have nothing to do with. I maybe a nobody but know that this comes from someone who has long admired you, from my mere childhood and it is not because my bias for a certain accused is strong but because I care and know you’re not ill-hearted. You’ve simply lost your way. Let’s pick the pieces together and fight the inner clashes as one. Take back the contempt notices you have issued. The more they criticize you, the more you elevate in status in front of Allah. Imagine going to Jannah just because people talked bad about you. Stop this scheme. Stop this whatever it is. Or it will end in conflict. You can not in any way shut up a world class leader from the crimes that must be accepted. Where a notice was much required, you shoved it up your sleeves and refused to recognize the ill you committed. Stop shying away from the truth. It is always bitter, remember? Did you not tell that to the hundreds of criminals you convicted? When it comes to the cases of the poor and the actual needy, the postponements and delays are only usual. But when one party petitions for some favor, you’re quicker to comply than ever before. Why are you scandalizing yourself, neeldessly? This comes from an innocent teenager, an innocent question. Why let that strife for justice and truth go to waste? Was it true when the dictator accused you, then? Either we were fooled then or you have certainly changed. You have misunderstood his statement, my dear judiciary. Probably because you want to misunderstand. And while there are dozens of cases on the pending list, you’re busy discussing the new swag of a swear word. Haven’t we gotten enough swear words for you to add yet another one to the list. You’ve been the superman for quite a long time. You had one of the worst criminals caught and brought before the law, but you didn’t succeed completely, did you? They still managed to seep through into the most honorable law making body, didn’t they? Your assigned Officers during the elections weren’t such a pretty picture either. Instead of checking for financial or perhaps moral faults, they were busy listing their grocery list with the candidate’s help. Forgive me when I say this but I, an ordinary, sixteen year old Pakistani, faces disappointment at large. Not only was I unable to vote, but because those who did go out in that hot summer morning, failed to achieve what they set out for. And then when OUR leader requested you continuously to take the matter up in court, you refuse to acknowledge his petitions. You’re trying to catch the robbers without destroying their roots, like cutting off branches from the tree. Branches grow back if it isn’t uprooted so you’ll keep failing until you address this issue. The democracy you claim to cherish has been robbed “overnight” and you haven’t issued that flamin’ sue-motto you’re so good at, have you? You say you have pending cases on top priority so you can’t possibly cater to this one, immediately but why the hypocrisy? You have ample time to issue that contempt notice where you’re simply buying time to dissuade us from the hero of a person OUR leader is. You’re wrong, my dear judiciary, you will NEVER be able to disinfect us from the love we hold for him. So it would be wise to take that back and show the nation of that solid block of wisdom we saw in you when we bolstered you up on our shoulders. Come back to us, please? We miss the real you. Remember if you don’t, you’ll simply be falling in that ditch I mentioned earlier and if you don’t remember properly, we dug it quite deep. Just so you know. Enough with the complaints, let me just applaud you one last time for increasing the “GAALI VOCABULARY” I held, you really are a sorceror, aren’t you? Sincerely, A concerned Pakistani. (P.S: Don’t forget to issue that controversial contempt notice or it will really be a “Sharamnaak” scenario)
