Conversion row- do you agree? ********************************** I share the genuine concern of R.S.S. and other ‘Hindutwa’ outfits over the erosion of ‘Hindu society’ through the conversion of its members to Christianity and Islam. However, I apprehend, that even if the proposed anti-Conversion law is passed , it will prove totally ineffective unless they strike at the root of this problem. I think, almost everybody will agree that in majority of cases, conversions are facilitated by cultural influences, so to deal with this menace comprehensively, a sustained campaign has to be launched on the following three fronts. 1. They must strictly prohibit all Hindus from sending their children to Christian institutions, but instead send them to ‘Saraswati Shishu Mandirs’ for early childhood education. 2. They must make concerted efforts to enforce ‘vegetarianism’ in Hindu society to preserve its pristine religious culture and values. 3. They must stop this all-pervasive ‘shero-shayree’ culture among Hindus right from the Parliament down to the lowest level. Recently, I have seen many of my Hindu friends speaking ‘Masha-Allah’, ‘ Insha-Allah’ and other typical Urdu words. On being asked the reason, they admitted that it is the cultural influence of Pakistani T.V. serials being screened on ‘Zindagee’ Channel, which have become very popular in India, irrespective of religion, caste or creed. As they are adversely affecting the Hindu culture, they must be immediately banned. I am sure, that if our ‘Hindutwa’ outfits sincerely work on these three fronts, they will succeed in checking the conversions , otherwise this much-hyped ‘ghar-wapsi’ programs , and the proposed anti-conversion law will produce nothing. *************************************************** Dr. Mustafa Kamal Sherwani Lucknow, India sherwanimk@yahoo
