Conversion – Transformation Through Troubles I’ve been showing you the process by which God takes us through times of crisis to bring growth and positive change into our lives. First, we’ve got to acknowledge our crisis, then, make a commitment to God. We also need to confess our brokenness before Him. And finally, allow Him to bring conversion into our hearts. And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” ~ Genesis 32:28 Jacob’s name originally meant “supplanter” … which wasn’t all that positive! But after he was touched by God, God changed his name to Israel, which in Hebrew, means “a prince with God” … what a distinct improvement! Friend, God wants to give you a new identity as a result of the trials and crises you face. God wants to give you a new character, a new name, a new nature, and a new life in Him. This conversion can only come through the grace of God as you humbly submit yourself to Him. 3 things happened to Jacob during his conversion: Jacob got a new identity in God. He was now a prince under the King, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords! Jacob got a new encounter with God. God doesn’t want to just build your endurance or enlarge your capacity as you go through a crisis. At the crux of it all, God wants you to have an intimate and powerful encounter with Him! Jacob got a new walk with the Lord. Every step he took from that day on had to be a step of total dependency on the Lord! God wants to take you through the steps of this process with each crisis you face, so that you too will receive a new identity, encounter and walk with Him, and be shaped into Christ’s likeness as a result! Prayer for the day: God, I’m ready. Shape me through the trials of life. Help me to stay committed and humble before You so you can transform me to be more and more like Christ. Amen
