Convicted of murdering her husband - Capt. Morris Hensen, she just walked out the front door of the prison. The woman was captured by federal police as she tried to leave for Switzerland on Friday ( 24th April ) in the Salgado Filho International Airport in Porto Alegre, was a fugitive from the prison system in Rio Grande do Norte since 2001 . Edna Maria Silva Paiva fled the front gate of the Penal Complex Dr. John Chaves,in the north of Natal, under the authorization of the director of that unit on the 6th of February of that year. The circumstances of the escape of Edna Maria, 39, were never clarified. She was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment in a closed security system on September 30, 1998 for co-authoring the death of her husband, the American Morris Clinton Henson, who was killed with four shots to the head on September 14, 1997 . Crime occurred in rural Nísia Foresta, in the Metropolitan Region of Natal . At the time, as noted in Paragraph 0202/01-GD-CPJC letter of 21 February 2001, the Director of Criminal Complex, Dr. John Chaves, informed the judge of the Court of Criminal Executions that ... at that on the date of 06.02 . 2001, he authorized an exit to the street of the prisoner, Edna Maria de Paiva Silva, but the same did not return, becoming a fugitive . Her brother, Fábio Silva de Paiva, 39, remains confined in the prison of Alcaçuz . He was sentenced to 22 years in a closed prison (high security) for having actually preforming the crime of killing his brother-in-n-law and hid the body in a shallow grave in brush 2 km from the farm where he resided with his sister. Edna Maria de Paiva lived in Zurich, Switzerland, but came sporadically to Brazil. She used to travel to the cities of Itabuna ( Bahia ) and Candido Godoy ( Rip Grande de Sul ), and was being monitored by the Specialized Police staff, Natal Homicide ( DEHOM ), but was captured even before the police could comply with the arrest warrant they had opened against her. The CRIME Morris Clinton Henson, 59, owned a mining company located in Rio Grande do Norte city of Ecuador. He was murdered in his ranch house , according to the survey, and the body transported in his own pickup truck to the place where he was buried . After the execution, on September 14, 1997, the criminals stole all the jewels of the victim and then went to Festa do Boi ( a large agricuture show ), where they intended to sell the objects. The police became suspicious because the widow five days after the disappearance of her husband, had not informed the authorities about his disappearance. The body was found by a dog . In 2010, the author of the shots that killed the U.S., Fábio Silva de Paiva was jailed custody of the Federal Police, before being transferred with two other inmates to the State Penitentiary of the Seridó located in the municipality of Caicó, RN. Morris had sailed to Brazil with the idea of filming along the coast of Brazil which included underwater films to be filmed in Fernando de Noronha, a maritime national park located off the northeast coast of Brazil. We became friends ... but several years passed ... I was still active as Master in the US Merchant Marine and I heard later that Morris had been killed. I was overseas, but I was kept advised during the trial of Edna Maria and her brother. After my stroke in 1999 ... and loss of our stateside home to the hurricane LILI in 2002, I returned to Brazil. Even years later I was contacted by the retiring delegado from the town of Nísia Foresta asking me to try to contact Dane and Morriss family in the United States ... they were worried because the ranch had been invaded by a group of undesirables and they wanted his family to legally state their intentions about the property. They also advised me that Edna has escaped prison. Eventually I did manage to contact Dane, he came to Brazil and stayed as my guest while arranging for lawyers to present their claim which is still ongoing in the Brazilian courts.
