Cool it with the flags, hotshot Flags are a fact of life, and doubly so on national holidays. People like to wave ‘em around and jump up and down a bit. Hooting and hollering is given powerful, patriotic meaning when you do it while shaking a little plastic flag around. Good, great. Everyone needs a narrative. Regardless of this, I believe there should be a rigidly enforced limit on the number of temporary flag tattoos that can be put on a person’s body. That limit should be two, and they cannot be on the cheeks (either set). Similarly, draping a flag around yourself as a cape like a shitty, nationalist Zorro should also incur substantial penalties. The 1953 Flags Act dictates that the Australian flag should never be placed upon the ground or come into contact with it.
