Copenhagen: World’s smartest city! Recently Copenhagen won the international World Smart Cities Award? Copenhagen won for having the best plan for collection and use of data to create a greener city, improve the quality of life and the city’s business climate. The award winning plan is called ‘Copenhagen Connecting’ and uses big data from mobile phones, GPS’s in busses and sensors in garbage bins and the sewage system to help the city’s objectives of reducing traffic congestion, air pollution and carbon emissions – without turning the city into a big building site. ‘Copenhagen Connecting’ aims to have a positive impact on the city’s infrastructure by ex. reducing time travel of bus passengers and cyclists as well as generating economic benefits of approximately 735million dollars once the plan is fully implemented.
