Copied from the press release written and distributed by Random Media Distribution: September 14 2014, The Random Lake Pizzeria in Random Lake, Wisconsin will be the site of a benefit designed to bring attention to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, otherwise known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Many people have heard of ALS, but are unaware of its effects or just how common an affliction it is. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (a-mi-oh-TROH-fik LAT-ur-ul skluh-ROH-sis), or ALS, is a serious neurological disease that causes muscle weakness and other neurological problems. Worldwide, ALS occurs in 1 to 3 people per 100,000. In the vast majority of cases — 90 to 95 percent — doctors dont yet know why ALS occurs. About 5 to 10 percent of ALS cases are inherited. There is currently no cure for ALS, something that doctors and researchers are working tirelessly to change. This is a family friendly event and it is encouraged that the entire family attend. The benefit is scheduled to begin at 11am. Live music will be performed throughout the day by a variety of local musicians. The local musicians contacted have enthusiastically agreed to come out to support such a worthy cause, donating their time and musicianship to help fight this debilitating disease. Weather permitting, the live music will be outdoors, but this is Wisconsin and as we all know and things could change very quickly in this great state of ours. There will be childrens games and activities and food and drink available for sale inside The Random Lake Pizzeria. In addition, this years event will feature a dunk tank so people will have an opportunity to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in a unique way, without organizers having to spend time filling buckets of water. The idea for this benefit concert was spawned by Rosemary O’Brien-Schwab of Random Lake and her family who wanted to bring some attention to a disease that has already hit home for their family and thousands of other families across the United States, as well as millions of people worldwide. Tom Mole, owner of The Random Lake Pizzeria and long-time supporter of the local music scene, was contacted and agreed enthusiastically to provide a location for the event. All donations for this benefit will go toward the Walk To Defeat ALS, a nationwide series of walks and runs that aim to raise funds for this debilitating disease. There will be opportunities to donate at the benefit and also additional information regarding the walk. More Information can be found at: alsa.org/
