As part of the Enhanced Infrastructure Replacement Project (EIRP) to replace gas pipeline, Consumers has 144 available positions and will fill those positions at two labor grade levels. Work schedule will be (4 days per week/10 hour shifts; Monday-Thursday) with occasional mandatory overtime, approximately nine months a year, with layoffs expected during winter months. These are union positions represented by the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUIA). Open application may be made at 135 Hamblin, in Battle Creek from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.3 Qualified candidates will be asked to return for testing from 1-4 p.m., please plan accordingly. Qualified candidates must possess: - A High School diploma or GED - Gas line construction laborers must complete a one-day "assess for hire" orientation - Gas line construction equipment operators must pass a mechanical aptitude assessment test and complete a two day "assess for hire" orientation - Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions and overtime when needed - Reliable transportation to the daily job site Consumers Energy has immediate openings for Gas Line Construct Laborer ($26.72/hr.) Duties include: - Operating hand-and-power-driven tools, such as shovels, rakes, wrenches, paving breakers, drills, hammers, and tamps. - Transporting and assisting in the loading and unloading of construction materials and all types of equipment, including earth boring and digging machines, back-filling equipment, etc. - Performing minor maintenance on equipment such as fluid-checking, replacement of wiper blades Gas Line Construction Equipment Operator ($28.77/hr) Duties include: - Operating all kinds of construction equipment including earth boring and digging machines, back filling equipment and others related to gas line construction - Installing, removing, or turning off residential gas meters - Locating and staking utilities for hand excavating underground facilities - Cutting, threading, and installing fuel lines - Performing CAD welding
