Copied post from:- Jane Salisbury hope you dont mind me posting this on your page, but hopefully it will help owners to keep their dogs safe, if not allowed please delete, I am a dog Warden and deal daily with reports of dogs going missing/stolen, so hopefully a few tips on how to keep your precious pets safe will help to prevent the heartbreak caused by these callus monsters. 1. Do not leave your dogs in a car anywhere, they have been stolen from supermarket car parks. 2. Do not leave your dog tied up outside shops etc. 3. Do not leave your dog unattended in the garden, they have been stolen from gardens even while the owners are in the house. 4. Be careful who you talk to about your dog, for example, if you go to dog shows, game fairs, and any event aimed at dogs, you may be giving a potential thieve all the information they need to steal your dog. 5. When you are walking your dog, change your time and route, and always keep an eye on your dog, do not let it out of your sight, particularly if you have more than one dog, the routine of thieves is that one will keep you talking while the other will take your dog when it is out of your sight. 6. Do be careful of walking in isolated spots as the really callus thieves will literally take your dog from you. 7. Check your fencing/gateposts, if you see a mark that was not there before be extra vigilant, apparently different colours mean different uses for the dog. 8. If you see anything suspicious then please keep a written record, type of car, colour, reg number, description of people, all of this can help to connect these thieves to other areas. 9. PLEASE share this with your friends, even if they do not have dogs and get them to share it with their friends and so on, if we all work together across the country them hopefully we can make dog theft a thing of the past so no one has to go though the heart break of losing their best friend. 10. If you do lose your dog then please do report it to your local Dog Warden (Council) also check with the Street Scene teams as not all Councils keep a record of any dogs involved in road accidents that they remove from the roads, they are just disposed of and not necessarily checked for micro chips. at least if they know you have lost your dog, if in the tragic event it has been involved in a road accident then they can contact you Sign this petition to help get microchipped pets back home epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/68410
