Coping with Grief After Community Violence: Given the - TopicsExpress

Coping with Grief After Community Violence: Given the non-indictment of Officer Darren Wilson in the murder of Mike Brown, were all experiencing a range of emotions- anger, rage, disappointment, despair. Some of us are feeling numb, apathetic and cynical. Others may be experiencing flashbacks of the raw emotions unearthed in the not guilty verdict in the murder of Trayvon Martin (July 2013). There are other names we mourn: Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, John Crawford III, Akai Gurley and so many others. As we move forward with continued protests, legal advocacy, community mobilization and other actions to end police brutality and militarization, PLEASE PLEASE be mindful of the negative impact of stress, pain and trauma stemming from these injustices and the seemingly insurmountable challenges that lie ahead. Hug your loved ones, laugh, dance, take a bubble bath, bake a cake, go for a brisk walk, pray, meditate, cry with those who are not ashamed to witness and validate your tears, take care of yourself. Theres a long road ahead. Download this (2pg) PDF here: store.samhsa.gov/shin/content//SMA14-4888/SMA14-4888.pdf
