Cops expect Sachin test in Thiruvananthapuram What will be the level of mayhem, when a man, who is regarded as next to God by at least half the population of the country, is to trot on your city road? Well, the city police have no clear idea, but, they are trying to do whatever they can to keep the frenzied fans under check when National Games 2015 ambassador Sachin Tendulkar will run on the MG Road as part of the Run Kerala Run for the promotion of the Games. Police have already started preparing for the event scheduled on January 20. Police are expecting a tough time as they anticipate a huge turnout of crazy fans, who just want to get a glimpse of their favourite sportsperson. Keeping this in mind, the senior officers attached to city police on Thursday met at the city police commissioners office and charted out a detailed plan to ensure the safety of the VVIP and also prevent untoward any activity. Polices plan is not at all in favor of the cricketing greats fans. Barricades, ropes and not less than 250 policemen will be between them and Tendulkar when he covers the nearly 1 km stretch from secretariats south gate to Central Stadium through MG Road. City police commissioner H Venkatesh admitted that it was a new kind of challenge for his fold as they have no clue regarding how huge the public response would be. We understand that dealing with Sachins fans would not be like dealing with agitators, he said. Agitators who still occupy the footpath along the stretch would be cleared. Ropes would be laid on either side of the road to form a fence. The fence would be reinforced by policemen, who will be deployed in such a way that it would be a daunting task for the fans to squeeze through them. Barricades would be erected at south and north gates of secretariat to restrict vehicular movement, Venkatesh said. Besides this, police would also form a protective ring comprising 40 policemen around the dignitaries participating along with Sachin in the run. In addition, officers in mafti will be running along with the dignitaries inside the protective ring. The run will commence from the south gate at 10.30am, when governor P Sathasivam flags off the event. The runners led by Tendulkar will head towards the venue at Central Stadium where a public conference will be held. Traffic will be regulated on city roads, especially on MG Road, from 9am onwards on Tuesday. Times Of India
