Cops recover Rs 38L worth stolen jewellery........ HYDERABAD: Police cracked the recent heist of Rs 38 lakh worth precious stones, including diamonds, and arrested seven offenders on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Balakrishna, 52, who trades in precious stones, from Diamond Street, Tiruchirapally. For the past two decades, Balakrishna had been coming to the city to sell gems and diamonds. He used to stay at Sukh Nivas Lodge on RP Road in Secunderabad and meet his clients. On August 25, a group of small-time jewellers from Lingampally contacted Balakrishna evincing interest in purchasing diamonds and asked the Tamil Nadu jeweller to come to Miyapur. After Balakrishna reached Miyapur, the gang took him to a secluded place and thrashed him before fleeing with the precious stones worth Rs 38.6 lakh. Based on the complaint lodged by Balakrishna, a robbery case was registered at the Market police station. A special team, comprising Market and Mahankali police personnel, nabbed the offenders -- Ch Mahendar, a jeweller from Lingampally, M Babu, a jeweller from RC Puram, Ch Chinna Sreenivasu, a jeweller from Serilingampally, Mohammed Anwar, a scooter mechanic from Patancheru, P Raju, a private employee from Patancheru, Ch Sridhar, a jeweller from Nizamabad, and M Shankar, a jeweller from Kothapet, when they reached Pot Market in Secunderabad to dispose of the stolen booty on Wednesday. The entire stolen property was recovered from the possession of the culprits and they were produced in court, which remanded them in judicial custody.TOI
