Copyright is a key form of intellectual property protection - TopicsExpress

Copyright is a key form of intellectual property protection provided by law to the creators of “original works of authorship,” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and other types of intellectual works. This protection is available for both published and unpublished works. Once a copyright is obtained, it grants the owner the sole right to display and to authorize others to create, perform or distribute copies of the work publicly. Copyrights make it illegal for anyone to violate any of the rights provided by the copyright law to the copyright holder. However, the rules governing copyrights vary internationally. The next time you go to the movies or buy a new book, remember that the copyright laws in your country facilitated the release of those products.
