Coquetdale Brewery was established in 2010 and operates from an industrial unit in Rothbury reviving a long lost local industry. The village hosted two breweries in the past, the last of which closed over 100 years ago. The three main ingredients to any real ale is water, malted barley and hops. The water gives each brewery’s product its distinctive flavour. Rothbury’s water supply comes from beneath the Simonside Hills which overlook the village. Furthermore, the second prime ingredient, malted barley, will be sourced from Simpsons, the Northumberland based Maltsters. There is obviously a third ingredient, hops, which unfortunately cannot be sourced locally but hopefully you will like our chosen hops with the individual bitterness and flavours they provide. The names of our beers reflect elements of the locality and the valley and reflect the pride we have for such a beautiful area.
