Coquetterie feels to me like one of the ways of female intelligence. Its been particularly hijacked through a synecdoche process, by English-speaking media, to reduce it to vapid flirtatious behaviour. In French, coquetterie is defined as the instinctive propensity to appeal through ones elegance of style, manners, or spirit. This is the main entry. There is also a meaning of flirt, or relationship (love or friendship), of triggering desire but maintaining the enchanted ones in an unrequited relationship, being completely dedicated to a task, being extremely considerate and caring, being extremely elegant in ones art, etc. In English, coquetry only retained the sense of a flirtatious act or attitude.
