Cordless charging is not new - we have all seen or at some stage perhaps owned a cordless toothbrush that has a charging station with no connectors or plugs. In later years, the charging pad has been around where you have your mobile in a special case and by simply placing your phone on this pad, it charges. Is is known as inductive charging. One of its biggest challenges outside of all the magnetic and inductive issues that may exist, is the proximity to the charging pad and the use of the device. In other words, you still need to be at the pad or the wall to charge and the device is pretty much out of bounds while it charges. Yes, you can get a long charging cable, but the tangle issue is still there, and lets be honest, a used device does not charge as fast as a standby device. This year, Energous launched its wireless charging system for devices ranging from tablets, mobile phones and wearables. At this point, the company is busy getting the tech right for the receivers and hoping that manufacturers will start integrating the receivers into their devices. The company claims that the tech works; In simple terms, a WattUp™ transmitter sends energy via radio waves to paired devices containing complimentary WattUp receivers. The receivers convert those radio waves into DC power, which in turn charges the receivers battery. energous
