Core Training is a common component to personal training and rehab. Voulntary contraction of muscles to perform a situp, plank, bridge, etc... will add strength, but will they actually improve your stability by making sure you contract that muscle during a functional movement? The answer is NO. Corrective exercise should be based on a thorough evaluation and should aim to facilitate the correct firing pattern of your core to actually be used during sports or your daily life. There are many ways to cheat through an exercise, so having a trained set of eyes to help you through it is a great idea.
