Corning Community College’s Spencer Crest Nature Center to Sponsor 33rd Annual Red Baron Half Marathon Corning Community College’s Spencer Crest Nature Center (SCNC) will host the 33rd Annual Red Baron Half Marathon on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 1 p.m. The course will close at 3:30 p.m. The 13.1 mile course will begin at the Commons building on CCC’s Spencer Hill campus in Corning, NY, and wind down the picturesque roads on the back of the hill. Runners will enter downtown Corning via Caton Road and Park Avenue in South Corning, through Denison Park to Tioga Avenue, across the Centerway Bridge, ending at the Corning Family YMCA. There are no steep hills that would be rough on the knees; and yet, from start to finish, there is a gradual 800-foot drop in elevation. Local distance runners consider this a great race event. Runners can register the day of the race from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. ($25) or pre-register by completing a registration form located on the SCNC web site at spencercrest.org/redbaron/index.html. Pre-registered runner fee is $20. Parking is recommended at the Corning YMCA. Bus transportation is provided free-of-charge from the YMCA to CCC’s Spencer Hill campus. Transportation services provided from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Spencer Crest Nature Center. The Center features 250 acres and 7 miles of trails with two ponds, a stream, and a museum of natural systems which includes changing displays, an apiary, and an environmentally sensitive design. For additional information, please contact Race Director Cory Wilcox at (607) 738-1514 or email Redbaron_SCNC@yahoo.
