Cornwall Council intends to prosecute Daniel and Lora Newman on August 23rd 2013 for living on their own land with their two young sons on the edge of Carharrack in breach of an enforcement notice. They both grew up in Cornwall, and have lived on their land for over 4 years, managing it sustainably, and working towards self sufficiency. They are on the edge of the village, in an old mining area, yet their permission to build a sustainable home has been denied as they are apparently in open countryside. They have worked hard on making their land productive, and are an established part of the local community, their eldest son is enrolled at the local school and is due to start in September. Yet Cornwall Council are threatening to make the family, including their 2 young sons homeless. "We are striving to be self-sufficient and to live in a sustainable way in harmony with our surroundings and our local community. We have got strong support from our neighbours and would appreciate it if as many people as possible could also show that they too believe we should be allowed to live on our land by signing our petition or writing letters of support. Without our land we will be nothing but homeless."
