Corporate Fast Day 11: Thursday, January 23rd Read: Isaiah 58:6, John 11, Matthew 23-26 Focus: Isaiah 58:6, “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?” (NIV) There is such injustice in the world...news stories and facebook feeds alike are full of horrible things happening -- abused, broken, hurting, hungry, misjudged, orphaned, martyred, and so on. It is heartbreaking and overwhelming if we face it alone and the temptation is so strong to look away and distract ourselves from the hurt. And yet, this is the fast God has called us to -- to be a people whose very lives bring justice and freedom to the oppressed. We have the calling and the resources of heaven to be world changers. Don’t close your eyes to the injustice you have the ability to rectify. Don’t close your heart to the hurting who will be helped if you hurt alongside of them. This place of pain for the ways sin and fallenness hurt the beloved of God, this is the fast God has chosen for His people. This is the life of fasting to which we are called
