Corporate News Manila Electric Company #MER Manila Electric Co (Meralco) said has about 80-100 megawatts of standby capacity under its Interruptible Load Program (ILP) in case Luzon grid again goes on red alert. Joe Zaldar-riaga, Meralco head for external relations, said Luzon grid is still on yellow alert – and they expect would stay that way – and they continue to work with the National Grid Corp. of the Phils. (NGCP) in looking for other sources of power supply. Under the ILP, industrial players like offices and malls that have been coordinating with Meralco would have to run their gensets to free up several megawatts of power that they have getting from the grid to help ease the tightness in supply. Meralco is also asking customers to save on electricity until tomorrow when the Sual power plant’s 647MW of output is expected to go back into the grid. Despite the thin supply, Meralco said this situation does not automatically mean that prices of electricty through generation charge would have to rise next month. --- Make SMART investment decisions!
