Correction - on the following - the correct show time is 6:00 AM... It was incorrectly noted as 6:00 PM in the initial Dispatches. Sorry. Dispatches – A Heads-Up for early Christmas Morning Recommended Viewing on TCM, Dec. 25, 2014 Christmas Greetings Folks, My warmest wishes for a Day of Joy for all. Throughout the day please take a few moments to remember our military personnel deployed overseas. My recommendation for early morning viewing on Christmas Day is a unique selection from the Western Genre and a must see for all Film Students and devotees of Western films. 6:00 AM – 3 Godfathers (1948) B&W – 106 min. Dir: John Ford DP: Winton Hoch -- -- -- Commentary – Plot Teaser – When 3 outlaws on the run in the Southwest frontier find a dying woman and her newborn baby in the desert they vow to save the child. -- -- I realize the hour is early and the day is Christmas, but if all possible try to include watching this heartwarming picture before opening presents. If not, try to watch it as soon as conveniently possible. I think “3 Godfathers” offers a refreshing alternative to the well-worn seasonal classic, Frank Capra’s “It’s A Wonderful Life” (1946). I think you will find it interesting to see rough and tumble John Wayne, who plays one of the 3 outlaws, caring for a newborn baby in an uncharacteristic tender manner. This picture is a real Season treat. --- --- --- Thoughts – “Real art is basic emotion. If a scene is handled with simplicity - and I dont mean simple - itll be good, and the public will know it.” – John Wayne (1907-1979) An enduring icon of American Cinema. ---- ---- ---- ---- Enjoy and learn from the magic of Cinema and of the Season. Be happy, be well and be safe. Frost PS – FYI - My Favorite John Wayne films. Film Students, take note as these are excellent films in their own right.
