Corrupt officials, back in business after Papal visit - LFS; Students to Aquino: Repent or resign lfs.ph/2015/01/20/corrupt-officials-back-in-business-after-papal-visit-lfs-students-to-aquino-repent-or-resign/ Following the conclusion of the Pope’s visit, the youth group League of Filipino Students (LFS) warned Tuesday that corrupt public officials will be ‘back in business.’ “With Pope Francis finally gone, Aquino and his fellow magnanakaw in Malacañang will resume their business of stealing the public treasury and enforcing policies which will further derive the poor of their access to social services,” said LFS National Spokesperson Charlotte Velasco. The group said that congressmen and Cabinet officials who are “aching to get their plateful of pork” from the 2015 National Budget and the P22.4-billion supplementary budget will be inflict more horrors on the people. LFS also challenged President Benigno Aquino III to heed the pontiff’s sermons and resign from office. Pope Francis has cited the perpetuation of corruption and oppression as roots of social inequalities in his speeches. According to the LFS, Aquino should immediately atone for his sins and leave his post as president had he acknowledged the pontiff’s lectures. “Pope Francis has firmly rejected corruption, oppression and injustice in his homilies. If Aquino has listened earnestly, he would have realized how much he has succumbed to sin and made millions of Filipinos carry the burden of poverty. If he truly cared for his people, he would have already resigned,” said Velasco. LFS added that Aquino’s desire to remain economically and politically powerful drives him to disregard the Pope’s words. Instead of conceding, the president told members of the media that the Pope’s message wasn’t directed at him. “Alas, instead of admitting his evildoing, stubborn Aquino thought he was exempted from the Pope’s reprimand. The Pope has addressed radical sermons to the Filipino people and the president who has orchestrated the large-scale pork corruption still believed he was impeccable,” stated Velasco. LFS stated that they will wage more protests in order to further expose the Aquino regime’s corruption. The group also urged the Filipino youth to listen to the Pope’s call to action and take part in the movement for social transformation. “The Pope himself said it, that in order to end the evil that is reigning our society, we must collectively and actively take part in the militant struggle for corruption and social injustice,” ended Velasco.### --
