Corruption: Corruption is major problem in this country. Every successive government tries to fight bribery and corruption. It becomes a major campaign flat form for every intending candidate during every election campaigns. Bribery and corruption is now becoming an epidemic in this nation worse than HIV/AIDS. What is Corruption and Bribery? (1). Lack of integrity or honesty (especially susceptibility [easily give in] to bribery); use of a position of trust for dishonest gain; (2). Moral perversion; impairment of virtue and moral principles. According to the meaning of corruption it is very obvious that corruption takes place only for personal gain. People use the position of trust and authority for personal gain. This kind of practice is prevalent in PNG and leading the country nowhere. Look at what the Bible has to say; 1Sa 8:3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment. Isa 33:15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; The Bible is very clear that when you receive bribe you automatically shut your eyes and hears from hearing and seeing the bad things in your surroundings and country. The eyes and ears of seeing the bad will be completely shut out so justice is perverted and there is no justice in any situations that is judged. This is a very big issue and needs to be address to the bottom of it if the government of the day is very serious about fighting corruption. The people in authority in any organization are representing the people of that organization who also make up the population of this nation. I was travelling to New Zealand and after transiting Brisbane, the Lord prompted me to take out my laptop. I open it and the Lord put in my heart to write Bribery and Corruption. The Lord told me clearly that when I return from New Zealand trip, I will be speaking on this topic. I started few lines brainstorming but felt sleepy and slept on the plane. In the afternoon on the next day, we went to a church at Levin Town to attend a Prayer Meeting. After the Meeting, the Church Pastor called us to the front (3 of us PNG) and the Church Elders prayed protection over us. After the prayer we had coffee and the church Pastor walked over to me and said that He was pastoring in Kandep, Enga Province and knew bit of our cultures. He told me that his ancestors were Scottish and they had the tribal clan system and it didn’t work well in their country. They changed and now its 250 years compared to PNG 50 years of trying to adapt to the western concept of live. After making a bit of comparison between the two countries he got up and said to me; “Pastor, your country has a problem. Your country is full of corruption because of your wantok system”. You live to please your own man so you are going backward. God has given different gifts to all the people. There is a gifted man capable of performing a certain task but because wantok system is very strong and deeply rooted into our culture, the manager/boss overlooked and hires his own wantok. Therefore, instead of moving forward you are going backwards. You are only a young country and you will come to realize that and once you defeat this (wantok system), you will triumph. And I said, you are definitely correct and I cannot deny that because that is what we are currently going through. In the 9th Commandment, we are not allowed to bear false witness; Bribery and corruption fits perfectly into this commandment. As a result of this we now face the consequences. Look at these stunning verses from the Bible; De 28:15 But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: The Bible continues on to list several curses (vs. 16 – 66) some of them directly affects this nation. If we are to really fight corruption in this nation, here is what the Bible says; 1. Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 2. 2Co 8:21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. To get back to the root of it, it all starts back in the house. Today when parents send a little kid to fetch water or do a little job, the child asks for commission or payment in some form. We the parents are entertaining the children and it is getting rooted at a very early age. No one wants to do an honest job nowadays but want to receive from the recipient to work. So everything starts back in homes. We must feed our children with the right attitude so when they grow up, they’ll not depart from it; Pr 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. It will take a while but it will pay off in due time if we start now with our own family back home. The Bible says you will reap exactly what you show; Gal 6:7 Dont be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we dont give up. What we sow today will reap some 20-30 years later but that is better than nothing. It is will be our biggest investment into our future generation of this nation. So the Bible concludes; Ec 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
