Corsair has just showed up again on the RADAR. Hello Jim, We were among the missing for a few weeks and I apologize. We left Key West on 25 January @ 0900 hrs with hopes of making plenty of distance Northward on Hawk Channel. When we arrived at Newfound Harbor off Big Pine Key we decided to stay the night. It is one of the best anchorages between Marathon and Key West, very well protected. The next day we got another early start and went to Marathon Key. We were quite familiar with Marathon as we spent 3 days there on our Southbound trip. We anchored next to the Bascule bridge again. The next day, the 27th, we got another early start, went out to Hawk Channel with a SE wind and a fair tide. We went twenty miles to the Channel Five bridge, past lignumeviti, Islamorada and all the way to Buttonwood Sound, Key Largo. During this part of the trip we saw the most spectacular scenery. The water had the color of Turquoise and the depth was 10 ft. We could see Sharks, Crabs and Sea Fans We made 52 ST miles. A record for us . We anchored off the Southern end of Key Largo and had another uneventful night at anchor there. The next day, 1/28 at 0700 hrs we were off again heading North to Miami, via the clear and open waters of Biscayne Bay, wind from the South and a fair tide. We made it to the Miami Marine Stadium. Its kind of a unique place. It used to be used for water skiing shows and there are still signs of stadium seats here and there.. One end is open to the ICW and is used as an anchorage. It was like anchoring in a football field. The next day, we had a favorable WX, with a SE wind of 10 to 15kts. At 0630 hrs, we headed out Government Cut and made our way up to Ft Lauderdale. We decided to take the Ocean Route instead of the ICW and miss about 10 bridges as the weather was conducive for this. We were about 5 miles off Miami and found the Gulf Stream. The water depth was 400 to 450 feet deep. The current to the North was about .5 knots We arrived in Ft. Lauderdale around Noon and continued up to Lake Boca Raton for another great anchorage. The next day at 0700 hrs, with another fair tide an a breeze from the South we go were off to Lake Worth and Palm Beach. We passed through 12 of the remaining 19 bridge openings and anchored down @ 1530 hrs at the North side of Peanut Island near Lake Worth inlet. It was a rainy afternoon and the early day was welcome. It was a cozy evening in Corsairs cabin on that dark and stormy night. The next day, 31 January @ 0700 hrs we weighed anchor an continued through the remaining 7 bridge openings to Jensen Beach. Our daughter, Carrie, drove down from Melbourne that afternoon and met us there. We had dinner at the wonderful restaurant at the marina. The next day, Alyce drove Carries car back to Melbourne and Carrie & I continued on to Vero Beach Municipal Marina where we got a mooring for the night. We had a great evening of cards and catching up. The next day, 2 February, we finished our journey to Sebastian River Boatyard, where Corsair is presently residing, while having some paint work completed... Regards to all, Bill @ Alyce from sunny Florida, signing off.
