Cosmic Ripples Thought to Shed New Light on Creation In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was unformed and void, darkness was on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God hovered over the surface of the water. Then God said, Let there be light; and there was light. (Genesis 1:1–3) A group of scientists at the South Pole has made waves after discovering evidence that possibly confirms the Big Bang theory of Creation. “Our experiment BICEP2 (Background Imaging of Cosmic Extragalactic Polarisation) has found the smoking gun evidence of inflation,” Assistant Professor of Physics Chao-Lin Kuo said. The BICEP2 team—Clement Pryke, Jamie Bock, Chao-Lin Kuo and team leader John M. Kovac—reported on March 17 the discovery of cosmic ripples that might signify the rapid gravitational change in the expansion of the universe after the “Big Bang.” If proven, the gravitational stretch marks indicate two phases of the beginning of time, showing that a concentrated ball of light erupted into a larger mass after existing only split seconds. The teams discovery supports the ripples in space-time predicted in Albert Einsteins theory of general relativity in 1916. These ripples are known as primordial gravitational waves and are thought to be the tremors of creation itself, much like the ripples that radiate when a stone is dropped in water. Some think the ripples strongly support Stanford’s Russian-American professor Andrei Linde’s theory of eternal chaotic inflation, which hypothesizes that the universe will expand forever. Many scientists think that theories about highly concentrated energy appearing out of nothing are consistent with the Bible’s creation story. Without addressing who or what caused it, the mechanics of the creation process in the Big Bang match the Genesis story perfectly, said Bar-Ilan University Professor Nathan Aviezer. If I had to make up a theory to match the first passages in Genesis, the Big Bang theory would be it. (Times of Israel) However one stands on the Big Bang theory, we can praise God that this news has people reconsidering the origin of their existence. May it cause many to realize that science does not disprove the Bible and that nature itself reveals the intelligent design of the Creator. It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts. (Isaiah 45:12)
