Cosmo Allegretti, the puppeteer for "Captain Kangaroo" died at the age of 86. He gave voice and movement to Mr. Moose and movement only to the mute Bunny Rabbit, and he also showed his moves as Dancing Bear and was responsible for Grandfather Clock and the Magic Drawing Board, plus he appeared as Dennis the Painter. As we learned when Jim Henson died but Kermit the Frog lived on, puppeteers are mere mortals but puppets are immortal. Their voices are silenced not by death but by a lack of interest from the public, for a puppet without an audience is a puppet without a purpose.
