Cosmos I hold a deep appreciation and reverence for the role science plays in explaining who we are and why were here and for the role it plays in our everday lives. I understand most people dont share my enthusiasm for science so, for a selfish reason, I urge those with nothing better to do to watch the series premiere of Cosmos this Sunday at 9 p.m. on Fox, the National Geographic and 8 other channels. This series, hosted by my main man Neil deGrasse Tyson, is an updated version of the 1980 series hosted by the late astronomer Carl Sagan. As Tyson explains, The goal (of the series) is to convey why science matters to the person, to our society, to us as shepherds of this planet. It involves presenting science in ways that connect to you, so Cosmos can influence you not only intellectually but emotionally, with a celebration of wonder and awe. The prerequisite is not that you become a scientist. Its that at the end of the series, you will embrace science and recognize its role in who and what you are. I hope you enjoy, as I will, this 13 part journey through the universe and beyond. Thanks, Dave
