Cost of Reviving Lagos-Kano Train Reviving the Lagos-Kano rail service came at a huge cost to government. For instance the project initiated earlier by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration had been abandoned with compensation paid out to the contractor. The repair of rail line by President Goodluck Jonathan was in two phases: The Lagos to Jebba rail line cost N12.2 billion, which was executed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company(CCECC) while the Jebba to Kano rail line was done by Costain at the cost of N12.1 billion, totaling 24.3 billion. The NRC also procured 25 brand new locomotives from General Electric (GE) in 2010, at a cost of about N2 billion.
