Could Unconditional Basic Income be the answer to our problems? Unconditional Basic Income aims at minimizing economic disparity and simultaneously eradicating poverty and consists of giving a guaranteed minimum income that is given unconditionally to all people in a country. I know that this idea of giving free money to everyone might sound a bit crazy but if you consider the present trend it makes sense. 1. Automation and technology are stealing jobs from people. 2. There arent enough jobs for everyone. 3. The labour market requires a flexible workforce and governments are forcing people to become self-employed. The benefits of the Unconditional Basic Income are the following: 1. It will prevent and eliminate poverty forever. 2. In the long run it is more economical because it eliminates all the bureaucratic costs associated with benefits system. It also eliminates the costs derived from poverty, because it is the biggest cause of people going to prisons, mental illness, school failure and family problems. 3. It will serve as a safety net for each individual to survive with dignity during the periods in which work is scarce. At the moment there is an European Initiative to get 1 million signatures to force the European Parliament to study this proposal but no one know about it.
