Could the NBA change the draft eligibility requirements? Currently - TopicsExpress

Could the NBA change the draft eligibility requirements? Currently for American players they would have to be at least one year removed from high school and for all players including international players they would also need to be 19 years old by the end of a calendar year. Rumors say that new NBA commissioner Adam Silver would like to raise the minimum age of draft eligibility to age 20. This means most American players would have played two years of college basketball and would be 20 years old by the end of their sophomore year or entering their junior year. Over the last 30 years there were several NBA players who declared for the draft after their senior year in high school but most have had a difficult transition to the professional level without having played in the collegiate level. There are exceptions however. Notable players who were successful in transition to the NBA right from high school include Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard, Tracy McGrady, Rashard Lewis and Jermaine ONeal. I think Commissioner Silver is more concerned about maturity and character about young players so that is the reason why the proposed age raise could come in play.
