Could the current crisis in Gaza be loosening the Democratic - TopicsExpress

Could the current crisis in Gaza be loosening the Democratic Party’s grip on the Jewish vote? Republicans have long wondered why American Jews are such loyal liberal voters. A recent Pew poll found that white Evangelical Christians have a 69 percent positive view of Jews, while only 34 percent of Jews feel any warmth in return. The latest Pew poll found that Democrats give Israel and Hamas about equal blame for the violence in Gaza, while Republicans blame Hamas by a 4-to-1 margin. Gallup found that 65 percent of Republicans think Israel’s actions in Gaza are justified. Only 31 percent of Democrats agree. It’s still a longshot that Jewish voters who tend to be very liberal on social issues will turn Republican in support of Israel. But the question is, will the rising threat to Israel’s existence, maybe the worst in history, combined with the American left’s pro-Palestinian rhetoric, convince enough Jewish voters that there are better things to do on a Tuesday than bother to turn up at the polls?
