Could this happen to your Fire Department? I have been a volunteer firefighter for 28 years and have seen many changes. The amount of training hours needed to join has skyrocketed, cost to operate a department is staggering. Most of all people have changed. It takes a special person to answer the alarm 24-7 when someone dials 911 and to me it seems everyone is so busy in their own life that there is no time to volunteer. The question also comes up Whats in it for me? Well the feeling you get after a vehicle extrication when the persons only way out is you and your brother firemen, well thats whats in it for you. So could this happen to your department? Meyersdale Fire is strong with a great group of experienced members and young firefighters that have the desire to help the community. But we all need to look to the future to avoid what has happened to Clarysville Wherever you live help your department in whatever way you can.
