Council Bylaws. Lots of arguments on Facebook at the moment about some of the council bylaws coming into force which are saying all dogs must be on a lead in council areas. There is no way anyone will enforce any law as the council wont divvy up the pay to employ any one. I see both sides of the argument, I have 6 dogs and I rent a field to ensure they have free exercise as they are trained security dogs and if I went to a park people would have hysterics seeing 4 Rotts and 2 GSDs running round playing off lead. I have however done several trips to the local council parks to observe dogs and their owners. Some of the so called responsible owners quite happily walk round the park with their friends and pay no attention to what their dogs are doing at all. a vast majority have no recall and on 2 occasions this week i saw dogs running over to dogs that were obviously on leads for a reason. On the other hand I saw several with excellent recall, owners interacting with their dogs off lead, playing ball. I also have read people hysterically claiming their dogs need to be off lead else they would go insane, which I can partially agree with but apparently most of these dogs only would go insane on dry days because when its been pouring with rain I saw very few people.walking their dogs. 15 mins of training is equivalent to an hours run, throwing a ball in the garden for your dog is the same as it would be running in a park. Socialising can be achieved by joining a dog club where you are hopefully supervised by people knowing what they are doing. The one problem I have noticed if your dog is going toilet off lead and you are a distance away, how the hell do you find it? because i have my own field and still can miss it. I certainly can not think of any way to make all the people happy all the time on this argument but i dont actually think anything will change anyway.
