Council District 2 is excited to announce that Miracle on 4th Street Park is being renovated with one-time funding set aside by Vice Mayor Lowenthal. See the press release below for more details. The Citys first mini-park, Miracle on 4th Street Park, located at 1518 E. 4th St, is getting a much-needed renovation. These improvements at Miracle on 4th Street Park will benefit children, families and the entire community, Mayor Robert Garcia said. “Every time we improve a park we make Long Beach a better city,” Mayor Robert Garcia said. “Miracle on 4th Street Park is one of the most heavily used parks in the city despite its size, so the renovation will help this neighborhood gem shine even brighter,” said Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal, who represents the 2nd Council District. The entire .14-acre park will be renovated with new walkways, landscaping, turf, irrigation, site furnishings, fresh paint on the playground, new playground safety surfacing and new tetherball equipment. The improvements require the park to be closed from September 17 to late October. The recreation programs associated with the Park will continue in an adjacent activity room during this period. The estimated cost of the renovation is $64,000, with funding from one-time infrastructure dollars. The park was offered to the City for an interim use by the adjoining property owner, and the City leased the property in February 2000 for the cost of development and upkeep. The park was opened to the public in November 2000 with a playground, bench seating, turf a mural and varied landscaping. The City purchased the park site in 2004 with Park Impact Fee funds. The City leases space for the activity room in the adjacent commercial building to conduct after school programs.
